Washington, D.C. – Congressman Eliot L. Engel, a senior member of the House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee, received a perfect 100% rating from the American Association of University Women Action Fund (AAUW Action Fund) for his Congressional voting record during the first session of the 114th Congress. The AAUW Action Fund scores votes critical to women and their families, paying close attention to where elected officials stand on issues like equal pay, college affordability, and access to birth control.
“I am very proud of my 100% rating from the AAUW Action Fund, an organization that is always on the frontline fighting for women’s issues in America,” Congressman Engel said. “The AAUW Action Fund and I share the same priorities: equal pay for equal work, defending women’s reproductive rights, working to improve family access to paid sick leave. These are the issues I am always fighting for in Congress, and advocates like the AAUW Action Fund are a great ally in the battle for true equality for women everywhere.”
“On behalf of the more than 170,000 bipartisan members and supporters of the American Association of University Women, and especially our members in New York, I want to thank Congressman Engel for his 100 percent rating in our recently published AAUW Action Fund Congressional Voting Record,” said Lisa Maatz of the AAUW Action Fund. “We admire his record of standing up for women and girls, including his support for closing the gender pay gap. We also appreciate his opposition to measures that would have weakened the Every Student Succeeds Act and further limited women’s access to critical reproductive healthcare.”
