Dec 15, 2016

Yonkers, NY — Congressman Eliot L. Engel, a leading member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, today announced the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded $30,313,086, in Federal grant money, to Westchester County for permanent work repairs to the Yonkers Joint Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). The plant was damaged as a direct result of Superstorm Sandy. WWTP provides primary and secondary treatment of wastewater generated from portions of southern and western Westchester County.

“Superstorm Sandy devastated critical infrastructure across Westchester, putting people at risk,” Engel said. “The Yonkers Joint Wastewater Treatment Plant was damaged by the storm and still requires substantial repair. I am pleased that FEMA has responded to our calls for assistance. This grant will definitely go a long way toward protecting the health and safety of residents of Westchester County.”
