Engel Statement on Nunes Memo

Feb 2, 2018

Bronx – Congressman Eliot L. Engel, the Ranking Member on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, today made the following statement:

“The President’s release of the Nunes memo has unfortunately been par for the course for this Administration. Just like when he disclosed classified intelligence to a Russian ambassador while standing in the Oval Office, the President is failing to actually protect Americans. His undercutting of American intelligence and the Justice Department, in order to cover up whatever latest scandal he is engaged in, is evident in his constant attacks on the FBI and Special Counsel.

“The world now sees that the memo is a cherry-picked, misleading, partisan instrument designed to discredit a man with an impeccable career of service. With its production, House Intelligence Committee Republicans have destroyed that committee’s tradition of bipartisan cooperation and weakened our national security. Our ability to collect future intelligence and work with our allies around the world is severely compromised by these actions.”
