Eliot Engel calls for records on U.S. spending at Mar-a-Lago, other Trump properties

The House Committee on Foreign Affairs is on the hunt for records showing Department of State spending at President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club and Turnberry golf resort in Scotland.

U.S. Rep. Eliot Engel, chairman of the committee, said in a letter to the department that recent reports suggest tens of thousands of taxpayer dollars are ending up “in the pocket of President Trump,” in possible violation of the emoluments clause of the Constitution.

“The President’s refusal to divest from his myriad business interests, coupled with the opaque web of shell companies through which those businesses are owned and controlled, makes tracking the large sums of money taxpayers are sending to Trump-owned properties difficult,” Engel wrote in the letter to Brian Bulatao, under secretary of state for management. https://www.lohud.com/story/news/politics/2019/07/24/department-of-state-trump/1807488001/
