NEW YORK – Proclaiming that Eliot Engel “fights for us,” the nation’s leading progressive Jewish organization, the Jewish Democratic Council of America, has endorsed the veteran Congressman for re-election in New York’s 16th District.
“Eliot Engel has always been a strong voice for Jewish and Democratic values in Congress, and we are thrilled to support his re-election,” said Halie Soifer, Executive Director of JDCA. “He has long been committed to protecting the environment, ensuring reproductive and human rights, making quality affordable health care available to every Americans, ensuring common-sense gun laws, and supporting a strong relationship between the United States and Israel.”
“Eliot is one of the leading progressive Jewish voices in Congress,” said Ron Klein, Chair of JDCA. “We know he will do everything in his power to ensure Israel’s security is safeguarded, which is also profoundly in America’s national interest.”
“Once again, I stand in full partnership with the progressive values of JDCA,” said Congressman Engel. “For the first time in recent history, we as Americans have faced the rise of domestic anti-Semitism. We know from polling that 73 percent of Jewish voters feel less secure today than they did two years ago and 59 percent of them blame Trump and his allies. I will do everything in my power to fight this lawless administration and its xenophobic allies.”
The JDCA is a socially progressive, pro-Israel organization that represents Jewish Democrats across the United States. Engel currently serves as Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and co-Chairs the House Bipartisan Task Force for Combating Anti-Semitism.
