Eliot Engel is the Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee. He previously held the position of Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere.
He authored the Syrian Accountability and Lebanese Sovereignty Act, was instrumental in gaining Temporary Protective Status for Haitians after the devastating earthquake, and authored the resolution proclaiming Jerusalem the undivided capital of Israel. He led the fight for independence in Kosovo, has been honored by Italian and Mexican governments, and has introduced legislation to enforce the MacBride Principles against discrimination in Northern Ireland.
