Eliot has fought for quality, affordable health care for all Americans, and taken action to improve health care services in our communities.

He is a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Health. He played an instrumental role in writing some of the key provisions of the Affordable Care Act that reforms and improves our health care system and the way health insurance companies operate. read more ››

Protecting Social Security and Medicare

Eliot has opposed cuts to Social Security and fought Republican attempts to privatize Social Security. He knows that the problems facing the Social Security system can be resolved without altering the fundamental nature of the program.

Engel has written legislation to guarantee an annual minimum cost of living Social Security increase, and to base the annual increase on a Consumer Price Index that reflects the reality of costs to seniors. He is fighting Republican efforts to end Medicare. read more ››

Eliot is a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Energy and Power and co-Chair of the Oil and National Security Caucus.

Eliot Engel is the Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee. He previously held the position of Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere.

He authored the Syrian Accountability and Lebanese Sovereignty Act, was instrumental in gaining Temporary Protective Status for Haitians after the devastating earthquake, and authored the resolution proclaiming Jerusalem the undivided capital of Israel. read more ››

Eliot has fought to make sure that we are providing our veterans with the best possible health care and other services, earning praise from veterans’ organizations such as the Disabled American Veterans.

Eliot Engel worked to pass the law that provides tax breaks to businesses that hire unemployed veterans.
